Non-dairy milks are harder to steam, rarely taste as good, and are often thinner than cow’s milk. But they also won’t put your lactose-intolerant customers in hospital, making them an essential part of a café’s offerings.

Which Alternative Milk Is Best?

In our first video, Amber from Seattle Coffee Gear looks at soy, almond, rice, and coconut milk. For her, soy milk is the best option. Coconut milk is a runner-up, with its good texture and mouthfeel, but Amber points out that it’s bad for frothing. Watch as she goes into more detail.

So How Good Actually Is Soy Milk?

Morgan and Mark of Whole Latte Love take a closer look, with a milk froth-off for soy, skim, 1%, 2%, and whole fat milk. Note: since different people froth each milk, this isn’t scientifically rigorous. What’s more, results will vary according to brand and protein/fat content. However, it’s an indication of the results you can achieve at home or in the café.
