Sometimes making coffee can feel like a crapshoot. Will your cup be good today? Who knows. But have you ever wished making coffee was a literal crapshoot? Then you are in luck, because 2007 World Barista Champion and co-founder of London’s Square Mile Coffee Roasters James Hoffmann has created the Coffee Brewing Dice.
Made specifically for the AeroPress, the Coffee Brewing Dice are a set of five castable cubes, each associated with a different variables like temperature, brew ratios, grind size and brew time, etc. On his website, Jimseven.com, Hoffmann notes that the “ridiculous idea” for the Coffee Brewing Dice was borne out of the seemingly endless ways to use the AeroPress. “There are just too many different ways to use it, too many potential outcomes and, for a while, this made me a little frustrated.”
With the Coffee Brewing Dice, there are a total 7,776 possible recipes. So it’s not like they really cut down on the number of possible brews, but at least they keep you from having to make a decision about which you choose to make.
Each set runs £12 ($16 USD) and can be purchased here. They will begin shipping out at the end of the week, just in time for holiday gift giving. And if you’re thinking about waiting to get a set, Hoffmann states that he is only making one run of the dice, so once they’re gone, they’re gone.
