The A/C’s blasting, the sunglasses are out, and people are desperate for cold drinks. And one drink you may see your customers asking for is bubble tea, also called boba tea, pearl milk tea, and tapioca tea.
So what is bubble tea?
Well, the first misconception that needs debunking is that it’s not always tea. That’s right! Although it started off life as a milky or fruity tea, you’ll now find bubble smoothies and even bubble coffees.
The one thing that defines bubble tea is that it has pearls, and typically tapioca pearls. Tapioca is a starch that comes from the root of cassava, a plant native to South America. Yet while tapioca is traditional, you can also experiment with using different food items – such as coffee – for your bubbles.
