It’s time to say hello to the new Specialty Coffee Association (SCA). Yesterday saw www.scae.com and www.scaa.org redirected to the new www.sca.coffee, where this statement can be found:
As of January 2017, the Specialty Coffee Association of America, established in 1982, and the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe, established in 1998, have officially become one organization.
Congratulations, SCA!

The SCA was announced on Instagram with nine images.
What Does This Mean For You?
At the moment, very little. While SCA has officially launched, this is still a transition phase and their website currently redirects users to existing SCAA/SCAE education programmes.
However, we can expect to see more information on their new educational programmes and membership packages in the near future. What we do know is that it will mean training and certifications are uniform globally, events will be collaborated on, and members will have access to the full range of resources. As they say on their website:
“The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) is a membership-based association built on foundations of openness, inclusivity, and the power of shared knowledge… SCA acts as a unifying force within the specialty coffee industry and works to make coffee better by raising standards worldwide through a collaborative and progressive approach.”
