Dogs are the best thing in the world after coffee. (Okay, cat people might disagree – but there are a lot of people on my side here.) So what’s better than dogs and coffee?

So we decided to look at whether dogs and coffee is actually a good idea – along with other ways you can mix man’s best friend with man’s only-way-to-get-up-in-the-morning. First of all…

Can I Give My Dog Coffee?

Please, please, PLEASE do not give your dog coffee.

It’s mildly poisonous to them and, in large enough doses, can be fatal. Smaller dogs, older dogs, and dogs with cardiac problems are most at risk. The same goes for chocolate, gapes, sultanas, macadamia nuts, avocado, onions… Basically, dogs are fragile balls of fluff (even the big ones), and we need to protect them from their tendency to eat anything and everything.

How Can I Mix Dogs & Specialty Coffee?

That doesn’t mean dogs and coffee can’t mix. Dog cafés have been popular in East Asia for years now (along with cat cafés, sheep cafés, hamster cafés, and more). And now they’re spreading to other corners of the world. There have been ethical concerns over some of these places, but others are working to make a positive difference. Take this LA café where you can order a pour over, play with a dog, and then choose to adopt it.

Of course, not all of us live near to a place like this. We’ll just have to drink our coffee while playing ball with our furry friends. And maybe we’ll get lucky and our coffee will even look like this:
