Cupping Coffee: A VIDEO Guide to Being a Q-Grader

Who decides whether a coffee is good or bad? A Q-Grader (or, for Robusta, an R-Grader).

While there’s some truth to the idea that everyone has different tastes, a Q-Grader evaluates Arabica coffee to SCA standards, deciding if it’s specialty or commodity, has defects, and what final score it gets out of 100.

But why is that important? And how does a Q-grader do this? Watch our curated video article to find out.

What Is a Q-Grader?

Greenwell Farms starts us off with this short-and-sweet video on being a Q-Grader – from a producer’s perspective. Cuppers don’t just evaluate coffee quality for green bean buying, or determine what tasting notes end up on the packaging. They are also invaluable for producers and mill owners, who can analyse the impact of production and  processing methods.

How Does a Q-Grader Evaluate Coffee?
