We’ve all read about Panamanian Geshas/Geishas being sold for high prices – but this time around, it’s an Ethiopian Gesha that’s broken records. Gesha Village Coffee Estate has just sold its best lot of coffee for US $85/lb, something the farm says is the highest ever price paid for African coffee.

Record-Breaking Prices For African Coffee
The sale was part of an auction of 21 specialty lots, organised by Adam and Rachel Overton of the 400ha Gesha Village Coffee Estate with the participation of Willem Boot. The auction sales totalled an astonishing US $216,607. Over 130 bidders from Asia, Australia, Europe, Saudi Arabia, and the US participated.
The star lot was a washed process Gesha 1931 and went to Pebble Coffee of Taiwan.
Although Panamanian Gesha is well-known for its exceptional and distinctive coffee profiles, making it the choice of many coffee champions, the variety originally comes from Gesha in East Africa. “We are growing the wild, original Gesha, found in the Gori Gesha Gesha forest,” says Rachel Overton of Gesha Village Coffee Estate. “It is a diverse coffee variety that reveals a range of flavor profiles over the course of the season.”
“We hope the Ethiopian coffee farming community will embrace higher quality standards in order to unlock the full potential contained in their coffee trees,” she adds.
