Strong vs Weak Coffee Plants: A VIDEO Introduction

Coffee quality: it’s affected by many factors. There’s the processing, the cultivation, the soil, the altitude, the varietal – and also the particular coffee seed.

Not all plants are as strong, or healthy, as others. Some will grow more slowly, with less leaves and smaller fruit. Farmers may find themselves having to purge this weaker stock.

How to Recognise a Weak Coffee Plant

The difference may be visible as early as when the plant’s still a seedling – and you will definitely notice it by the time it’s producing cherries.

Here’s how one farmer, on Finca Cazador, recognises which plants are too weak to keep growing.
