Curtis Gives $250,000 To The University Of California, Davis Coffee Center

Curtis has pledge $250,000 to the University of California, Davis to help expand the university’s Coffee Center. The Southern California-based manufacturer of the Gold Cup coffee brewer and its under-counterparter, The Seraphim, announced the donation early today, equaling a pledge to UC Davis made almost a year ago by Peet’s Coffee.

According to the press release, the quarter-million dollars will go towards renovating a 6,000-square-foot facility that will include: a pilot roaster, sensory analysis lab, advanced analytical labs, classroom and office space, and an experimental green bean storage facility.

From the press release:

“With over 75 years of coffee knowledge under our belts, we know that, with the help of UC Davis, the next 75 years will bring us an enhanced understanding of coffee that will continue to revolutionize the industry and benefit our customers,” said Patrick Curtis, the company’s business development manager. “We are excited to partner with the UC Davis Coffee Center to help advance our knowledge of the most popular beverage on the planet.”

The UC Davis Coffee Center is the first of its kind and is “applying a rigorous academic framework to research and education in coffee science.” This donation from Curtis will help extend the viability of this mission. For more information, the full statement cane be found here.
